Irish Language

A new Irish language class kicks off on the 5th December.  These are mainly aimed at beginners but if you’ve a bit of language please come along too.  The classes will be relatively informal, we’d rather get together and start learning conversational Irish.  They will be held every Monday.

First Class Date: December 5th 2011
Location: St. John the Baptist Parish Hall, Bristol Road, Kemptown, Brighton BN2 1AP
Time: 6.30 – 8pm
Email Contact mcgovernaine@hotmail.com

We’ve been lucky to have a native fluent volunteer offer to take the class, so a small contribution would go a long way.

Seachtain na Gaeilge logo

Seachtain na Gaeilge is an annual event to promote the speaking and writing of the Irish language, with major backing in Ireland from the media including RTÉ.

To mark Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish week) in Brighton, a Ciorcal Comhrá (conversation group) from Brighton held their first public meeting at the Eagle pub, Gloucester Road in March.

The evening appealed to all levels by including a refresher on basic Irish phrases including common greetings and sayings, and ended with a fun quiz!

Such was the success of the evening that a similar event is being planned for September.
