Cork man Ty Galvin is chair of County Brighton. Extracts from his writing about his childhood in Ireland and working life in Brighton – he was once the electrician on Palace Pier – were published last year in The Guardian as part of a two page feature on Salt and Vinegar, a sell out anthology produced by a Brighton Community Centre.
Writer Carmel Walsh has a sharp ear for comedy and a heart for the small self deceptions that makes us human. Her gentle sense of fun ensures that her parish tales about the Irish in Britain are laugh out loud funny. The 2006 winner of The Irish Post short story competition, Carmel is just about to complete a Masters in Creative Writing from Sussex University.
She is also one third of The Celtic Ti-grrs, an Irish traditional music band based in Brighton that delights audiences with their exuberant interpretation of Celtic music. They have played in various UK venues including Fontwell Park racecourse, where they were the support band for the legendary Saw Doctors. http://www.myspace.com/theceltictigrrs
