IRISH WRITERS IN LONDON SUMMER SCHOOL 2009
Special guest at this year’s summer school is the award-winning writer John Healy
whose autobiography The Grass Arena is now a Penguin Modern Classic.
Other writers appearing are the critically-acclaimed playwright Anne Devlin, novelists
Bridget Whelan and Lucy Caldwell and literary critic and historian Professor Clair Wills.
First established in 1996, the summer school runs for two nights per week for six weeks
at London Metropolitan University in Holloway Road, North London and aims to provide
an informal but informative setting for students wishing to study Irish literature over the
summer. Each week an established Irish writer comes to read and speak about their work
to the students.
N.B. This is not a creative writing course. However, it will complement such a course
of study at London Metropolitan University or elsewhere. No prior qualifications are
